Yesterday was a quiet day.  That does not mean nothing happened.  It did.  In fact it seems more significant than many days.  If I were to sum it up, I would use two words.  “Realistic self-assessment.”
The morning was spent doing things I am used to.  Merril and I setup our church so it is ready for the service.  That means setting up a kids area and ensuring the seating arrangement is ok for the service that comes later.  We also check out the whole joint and do whatever needs to be done to ensure we are ready to go.
The service was great as per usual.  There was a different preacher and someone giving communion.  I really enjoyed both.  I enjoyed the whole time.  We had a number of people there who had not been before.
After that we bought fish for lunch and went home and had a rest.  I had intended to look again at stuff for a meeting I had for a board meeting that afternoon.  But I was pretty cactus for whatever reason and slept till it was time to go.
It was at the meeting I had the sense of “realistic self-assessment.”  It was just in a sense of doing things differently than I might have once.  I was asked to take the minutes.  I was ok doing that but soon realized that the way I did it when I had the job for the year was the right way.  Back then I recorded the meeting so I could glean notes before I deleted the recording.
My writing has always been terrible but I realize it has gotten even worse since the stroke.  Before it I asked for the autograph of someone who said I had nice writing as no one has ever said that before.  At one point yesterday I was asked what I had written and said I was trying to work out my writing.  I notice most bad writers at least understand what they have written.  Not me though.  Often Merril will ask me “what does this say?” and I look at it a long time before knowing what I said.   I know I was too verbose in what I wrote before from recordings, but had gotten briefer.
Yesterday I did not have a recording to fall back on.  But a little thing I have been working on is the thought that “there is good in things, if I look long and hard enough.”  Yesterday’s goodness was the realization of the need to do it the right way for me.
Aldi may be “good, different” and I feel a portion of yesterday’s activity was for me the same.
