In it Together

I think I have said it a bit and totally think it is true.  We are all in this together.
Really to have the words of that statement reinforced I only need look at the lives of some rich.  I have nothing against a person acquiring wealth according to the rules.  What does get to me is those who amass wealth with thought only for themselves and often at the expense of others who pursue only a hand up rather than a hand out.  It is the rich who often fund charities.  They take the place of government and are often more responsible with the brass.
Ok I will never say never as I do not know what the future holds but I know that among the vast majority of people we need one another’s help on occasion.  All of us are attempting to make our way in the world and for the most part things work out.  There are occasion though that a helping hand helps another get past a difficult situation.  I help others out and others help me out.
This is not to pretend we are the same.  We are all different.  We all have our own unique fingerprint.  No two people are identical.  In looks they may be called identical twins but in personality each of us likes things to varying degrees.
Thankfully this is a good thing.  A number of us may like footy but we are different enough to bring different strengths to the table.  I may love the game but lack the financial nouse to set up a workable league.  Another may love the game and be a financial wiz.  I could have it work but he could have it work better.
To that end I really think it is important that each of us contribute to each other.  All at the back end of something are as important and needed as those at the front end.  Individually maybe I can’t but together often I can.

Every Journey Begins with a Single Step

I know it is often the reader, but I do think sometimes writers feel inspired.  I felt what James Clear said in his email this week was inspired.
“Running one mile has more in common with running a marathon than sitting at home.  Investing $100 has more in common with being a millionaire than being broke.  Writing one sentence has more in common with writing a book than never writing one.
It always feels small in the beginning and the big goals seem far away. It's easy to talk yourself out of the early attempts because they feel kind of meaningless.
But every race starts with one step. Every fortune starts with a small deposit. Every book begins as one sentence.
The real question is not "What is my current position?" but rather, "What is my current trajectory?" Doing nothing builds nothing. Put yourself on the path to something better. Start small, but make sure you start."*
*Note: inspired by this Instagram caption from Kayla Henry.
I would add it is never too late to start.  Looking back and saying “that would have been good 30 years ago, but it is too late” is self-defeating.   My thinking is it is only ever too late while I think it is too late.  Doing it 30 years ago would have been good for sure, but the fact is I didn’t.
I sit at home in our “shed” (a very liveable shed mind) working on stuff and I admit sometimes I ask myself why. Yet I know I will be like this till the day I die.  A couple of my favourite sayings come into play. “Available people prepare” and “lots of little make a lot.”
I got an email from someone yesterday thanking me for something.   In writing back I thanked them and admitted I do stuff without any attached “gooy” feelings.  What I do is often less feelings based then doing what I think is the right thing to do.  I am often unaware of the effects yet am told they are good.
I think that is just a result of doing stuff despite associated feelings.  Putting one foot in front of the other must get me somewhere and it seems life is not just about a destination but a journey.

It's Quiet - Too Quiet

I guess there is a first time for everything.  I read the clock wrong this morning.  We add about an hour to the time on our clock as it went awry a while back as a result of a power outage.  We have not fixed it yet.
So I normally add about an hour.  Trouble is I can have trouble distinguishing the time at the distance it is from me.  It happened this time.  I thought it was around 4am.  I have been trying to get up a little later around 4.30am.  (Though I know I have trouble just lying there if I am awake.)
This time though I failed miserably.  I got up around what I thought was 4am.  I had done several things which had taken I imagine going on an hour.  The thing was when I sat down again at my computer I did a double take.  It said 3.51.  Boy had I been early.  No wonder an email I had been expecting had not come through yet.
I did read an email about conflict management.  A guy was sharing something he had found helpful, and the topic rang a bell with me.  He was saying sometimes the volume of the noise around does not indicate the amount of opposition but just the volume of opposition.  Sometimes say 5 of 100 can sound like 95.
Another point he made which I am still processing but to me holds true is that often no noise does not indicate support of an opposition cause but apathy – a tireness from, or an unwillingness to engage in something.
I personally reckon that can be true.  I think it is often what is called here “the silent majority.”
Yet I must admit sometimes the “do nothing” approach means an undoing of what I hold to.  It reminds me of the saying that says something like, “for evil to triumph it only needs good men to do nothing.”  Sometimes I think winning is not so much about overcoming resistance but not meeting resistance.
Anyway that was my super early musing.  The car that picks up a guy (they must work in a bakery or something) was not late.  I was early.  “It’s quiet.  Too quiet.”  I think I know why now.
