Keep it Simple

It’s funny but I have always thought that a simple answer is more desirable than a complex one.  Depending on the context.
For example, when I write (not that I could discus much that is complex) I prefer the simple over the complex.
My reasoning is this way.  If I chose to use say a complex word maybe 15% of people know what it means.  Whereas if I use a simple word or phrase, chances are 100% of people will know what I am talking about. That actually suites me as simple tends to be what I know.
In a sense I guess it is why I like to read and write children’s stories.  Simple is understandable whereas complex is anyone’s guess.  I think that is why I have appreciated the writing of C. S. Lewis so much.  I have found that he puts really hard things to explain, in such a way that I understand.
I can really pick hard and easy when reading.  At the moment, I am reading a book described as a good read.  It is not a novel but a walk through history.  I admit I am really enjoying it.  I feel it is written in such a way that the simplest to the most complex person could understand.
On the other hand I have a book by someone who is a professor at Cambridge.  His writing is like wading through a swamp.  What he has to say is in my opinion good, but I do not want to go there as it is such a hard slog to read.
I have always been for including the most rather than excluding the most.  Naturally the tone is dependant on the known audience.  I would sit in meetings of high powered people and not understand what they were taking about.  Their target was those of like mind, and although I tried to look intelligent, I was regularly lost.
To me a good read has always been about breaking down hard concepts and making them simple where possible.  I don’t mind re reading something to aid understanding, but I am not likely to go to a place I feel I am constantly having to re read something that, if put another way would be simple to understand from the start.
I may not be part of the 15% but I am definitely a part of the 100%.

Go For It

What crossed my mind this morning was the different types I come into contact with.  I reckon there are three categories.  Those actively with me while we head in a certain direction, those who do not oppose me but really do not care one way or the other and those who actively try to thwart what I am trying to achieve.
It is not about natural “not taking to.”  There are people in my life who I do not oppose - and are very reasonable people, that I just do not take to.  A different personality type.  Sometimes this is not like a forever thing.  There is a guy I like reading now who I just could not take to for many years.  What he had to say was good, but I missed heaps because I would just not go where he was.  I was happy to hear stuff he may have been saying - but just not from him.
That is different to what I am thinking about.
I feel very fortunate and blessed that there have been a number of people that have rallied around what I wanted to achieve.  I remember distinctly one guy saying it was a pity so and so was not here (it as a working bee to put things together).  I will never forget what I said.  “I really do not mind they were not here as long as there were enough to do what we had in mind.”  Which I am glad to say there was.  I have found that so often.  Ones I did not expect and ones I did come out of the woodwork to assist.  Enough is aways enough.
Probably the vast majority of people I know are indifferent.  Happy to let me do my thing.  Willing to give a hand where necessary - but always with a view to disappearing into the picture and being anonymous.    There is a couple we know who are like that.  They could not be more helpful.  They step up when others hold back.  They are a tremendous help.   Yet most of the time they are unseen by Merril and I.  But when seen they help big time.
Then there are those actively against me.  I do not have a high enough profile to attract my own anti-crowd.  But I have been to things where I had to say something and even before I was finished, a leader was disagreeing with things I had not even said or hinted at.  At that moment I knew that was the sort of person that was against me.
Fortunately for me and my peace of mind right now that is the exception rather than the rule.  They say “make hay while the sun shines.”  That is my outlook.  Right now I am free to be me.  No matter what I will go for it.

Too Close for Comfort

Well here I am late as usual of a Monday.  Merril and I go off to a prayer meeting at 6am of a Monday.  We did that then went for breaky at Banjo’s.  After that we had packed in the car a pile of stuff for the treasure market that had not gone at our markets.  We are home now.  Merril is going out again at around 10am.
I had gotten up a little later than usual.  I had woken at 3 something and thought I will get up at 4.  But when I awoke it was 4 something.  I got straight out of bed then, but knew I did not have enough time to do a post before I left.
I know many people that read this do not follow football.  I must confess I watched the men’s final last evening which we won 26/22 in a come from behind effort.  I was actually pretty surprised (but pleased) we won.
I really think this is a not to be repeated time.  Having the men’s team and women’s team win the rugby league final along with the men’s afl team winning.  Just having three teams in the finals is pretty awesome, but all three teams getting up I cannot see happening again.  All that remains is for the women’ afl Brisbane team to make the finals and win and that would be like a clean sweep.  But they are 5th and the final is not till November sometime.  Big ask I reckon.
But the game last night was a beauty and so tense.  Especially at the end where we had lost arguably two of our best players in Renolds and Hunt.  But Brisbane were hungry.  Everyone that came on stood up and repelled wave after wave of attack.
I was so pleased when the final hooter went.
I am not a good watcher when I am invested in a team.  I tend not to watch and await the result.  Last night I watched.  The week before I was in a meeting and Merril texted me the scores.    Again we were behind and our score crept up until finally I did a double take when Merril texted our win.
So although I know a number of people are not into it, I thought I would comment today as it was something I was really keen about, that turned out for the best.
