Goodness Gracious

The bottom line to me is to try to be a good person.
I am seeing lots of protests of late.  All sorts of views are represented.  Some I adhere to in part and others I do not agree with.  Yet it seems to me to matter most that I am a good person.  It is a person’s character that rules and not what is said alone.
It’s funny to me that being good is always right.  It matters not so much what I represent, but the way I represent it.  As far as I can see there is no rule against being good.
Being good does not mean being submissive to enerything.  Sometimes being good is the hardest thing to do.  The general mood may be one of retribution and revenge for both perceived and real injustices.
Yet I cannot help but feel there is a real danger of becoming just like the one being railed against.  To me if that is the case nothing really changes with a getting of my own way.  The source of the problem is now me rather than someone else.  The pendulum may have swung, but the clock remains imbalanced.
I do like something I read.  “goodness is not about being flawless; it is about being willing to repair.”  My being good is like me “a work in progress.  I say and do the wrong thing at times.  To me that is a fact of life.  It is what I do about it that reflects who I am.  I reckon the good thing to do is to acknowledge mistakes and seek forgiveness.
Another’s response to me is not as important as my action.  Someone said, “forgiveness is not easy but freeing.”  I would say the same about seeking forgiveness.  I am not mr “always right” but as I song I love says “I’m not one whose got it all in place telling you what you should do, I’m just one ol hungry beggar showing you where I found food.”
All are in this together.  I cannot set myself up.  If I do it is only for a fall.  To remain humble and teachable I need others and others need me.

A Different Sort of Day

Well today has been different.
Normally we are up and out before 6am to attend a prayer meeting.  This morning we were up at that time to drop off a car to be looked at.  Not our car but one making some odd noises.
To that end Merril and I hoped in the car and drove it to the mechanic.  We then caught the train from the station opposite where we took the car.  Things have changed since I was train travelling regularly.  The carriages are much nicer, and I think better designed.  There are places for wheelchairs near the doors.  The carriage we were in even had a loo. That is different.
Houses have gone up where there were none before.  In fact, quiet the suburb.  But that comes as no surprise judging from the development we see happening all around.
The train trip was followed by a walk home.  A portion of it was through a park.  That was real nice.  We talked to a fellow we know from the pantry who was out for a run. He is 70 something and super fit.
We spent a little time at home and then Merril walked to the shops.  I spent the time cleaning our fish tank and packing for our trip to Peth on Thursday.  I basically followed a list provided for our specific time away.  It looks to me like we may be heading for a bit of rain.  Still I have never seen Perth, and we are going to Margaret River and the island off Perth.
I am always glad when the cleaning of the tank is done, and the fish survives.  So far so good and the fish is swimming around.  That is a better sign then it floating upside down.
The car will be ready at 4.45.  We have arranged to get it.  Well Merril is getting it.  I hope to mow the lawn.
We are having someone over for dinner tonight.  Merril has bought all this stuff and it occurs to me why don’t we just go get take away.  But Merril’s call.
Either way it is a good day.  Very domestic but enjoyable.  And I just spoke to Merril.  She said a lamb roast is easy.  Secretly I am glad.

Priority

Anyone who reads my stuff knows I am a great believer in making a start.  The way I do it is to find what I have and go for it.  It only becomes obvious more is required as I go along.
When we made the artificial plant cover behind the bbq, I found what wood we had and only then knew I needed joiners, screws and wire.  We had most of what was needed and got the rest.  Only then could I finish the job and hang the screen up.
It was the same with stamps.  Only starting told me I needed more sleeves.  Sorting was profitable and I got them to a stage where I could go no further without the sleeves.  I purchased them and can go on.
They say, and I have found the hardest part of any task is usually getting started.  I so often do anything but make a start.  And having done that I try not to get distracted (not always successfully).  It is amazing how many times I can start on one thing and several hours later be found doing something totally unrelated that was not required to do at that point.  There may be a small sense of a win, but what I set out to do still looms large.
When it comes to public stuff, I always start with what I need to do first.  Even this morning I am going out later and have some things I will be doing.  I ensure I am ready for that first.  My thinking is if I do not get to the other things I have at least done all required for what is on the horizon publicly.
I find the stress of vagueness is uncomfortable and unnecessary.  For me lists help keep me on track.  I like to prioritize stuff.  All is important but the most important is what is important now.
