I saw a heading today that has me rethinking patience.  I have for a long time seen it as a “necessary evil.”
I do not think it will be ever something I jump up and down about and say “you beaudy.”  The proliferation of methods to “have now and buy later” seems to suggest to me that patience is not something that is encouraged, but to the contrary it is something to be avoided.
Yet thinking about it I can straight off think of advantages to patience.
For a start I need to admit that maybe I do not have the full picture and what I imagine I need is really the last thing I need.  Sometimes the very thing I am after is the thing that will distract me from what is my destiny.
The reason I feel that way highlights to me what I see as one of the advantages of patience.  Patience to me highlights what I am really after and how focused I am on it.  For me when exercising patience, a whole lot of distractions can come to the fore.  I chose what I really want.  Am I willing to wait or will I pursue what I know to be a distraction only because it is available now?
Another reason I see patience as a good thing is it strengthens my personality. Denying now for future benefits is to me something worth the wait.  Certainly it can be hard seeing other cars (lives) zoom ahead of me.  Yet I know what I am waiting for is what I need.  In the simplest terms it may be petrol I am waiting on.  I may have enough for so far but not all the way.  The wait is worth it for me to make the finish line.
My car may be a supped up one that is capable of overtaking others when properly fitted out.  Yet there are few things more embarrassing then being able to start but not finish.
There are many writings on the advantages of patience.  In the past I would have been inclined to think “good for others but not applicable to me.”  Yet I have come to see that it is good  for me when it is necessary.
Sometimes patience is called for and sometimes immediate action.  Knowing the difference makes the difference.
