Your Days are Numbered

Please excuse me if I am talking a little more gibberish than usual.  I put it down to a lack of sleep.  Being vigilant 24/7 is hard work.
It all started when Merril solemnly declared to me “your days are numbered.”  It took me a while to process the implications of that, but once I did, I knew I could never sleep again.
Well maybe that is taking it a bit far.  I catch some shut eye when I can.  I see my chance when we are doing different things in separate locations.  I wave Merril off, and race in and try to get some rest.
I had to come up with a plan first.  The trouble was, it had to be a perfect plan.  It was not like I could make a mistake and think “Oh well, I will know that for next time.”  There may not be a next time!
The thing I have found about a lack of sleep, is it tends to lead to wild mood swings.  One minute I may be crying copious tears that lead to evacuations and road closures, and the next minute I may be manically doing things.  A skyscraper for Burpengary seemed like a good idea at the time.
It is not like I have done nothing.  While I lay there with eyes as big as saucers staring at the ceiling, I decided that when I got the chance, I would google it.  I mean, why spend money on experts when I could look up the web and self-diagnose.  I knew doing that was fraught though.  In the past a scratch on the finger generally meant I was going to die.  The good thing was, I could ignore what I did not like, until I found something I did.  Like a scratch on the finger meaning good health and wealth was coming my way.  I like that way better, so it is one to go with.
This “your days are numbered” thing though was not a good look.  Someone saying that generally meant the worst.  Wisegeek said “this idiom or trope is often used in conjunction with pending doom.”  Answers.yahoo said, “it’s a linguistic tool to install fear,” while thefreedictionary declared “Someone or something is soon to die or end.”  Whatever way I looked at it, it did not look good.
Stuff being said to me was like it was coming from a long way away, and the person saying it looked like one of those caricatures created by mirrors.  Still, I tried to look like I had it together.  That may have been counter-productive.  I may have tried too hard.  So when Merril declared that by “your days are numbered,” she meant everyone’s days are numbered, it took a while to sink in.  Having been sus for some time, reassurance did not come immediately.
It seems what she was saying is everyone has a start and end date.  I knew I was born at a very early age, but the end date is a great unknown to me.  I wanted it to be an unknown to everyone.
It seems it is.  Time to catch up on some sleep.
