Yesterday's a Closing Door

I was listening to some of the songs on my web site (https://nothomeyet.net/index.html) and the words in a song by Danny Gokey (Tell Your Heat to Beat Again) (https://youtu.be/TC8CzgKvHto) I particularly liked. “Yesterday's a closing door / You don't live there anymore / Say goodbye to where you've been / And tell your heart to beat again”
It was “Yesterday’s a closing door, you don’t live there anymore,” that got me.
While I will always enjoy revisiting good memories (like our trip out west) I refuse to inhabit regret.  For sure there are times a thought causes a wince.  Things I have said or done or haven’t and should have.  Actions taken that should not have.  But to me yesterday is a closing door.
It is closing because fully closed would mean never visiting.  For sure I do not live there anymore but I find myself visiting the joint on occasions.  Sometimes it is a deliberate visit and other times I find myself there.
But something has changed.  I have no desire to stay there.  In myself I know I could return if I wanted to, but I know I do not want to.  I just need to see how it affects me to know it is not a good place to be.
To me all experiences breed.  Good ones breed good ones.  Regrets on the other hand breed regrets.  I have determined that rather than hanging around to see regret breed more regret, I will make other memories.  Good ones producing good ones.
This is not to imagine that bad things do not happen as they do, but what they produce is up to me. I know that because I am not a perfect human being I will do, or fail to do things, but that is not who I am.  Not what I aspire to.
A lifetime is a lifetime full of lessons.  It is up to me if I choose to stop at a particular place and live life on repeat, or if I move on.  That may mean picking myself up and dusting myself off.  Learning the why of what I don’t want for me.  So be it.  To me that sure beats staying in a place of regret and hurt.
