Yes, I Think

12/8/2023

I recently heard someone say something I like.  I would actually prefer you did not run off saying ”Kuskie’s hearing things.”  Technically it may be true, but it could be put better I think.
They said every time I say yes to something I am saying a thousand nos.
Thinking about it I reckon that is about right.  We said yes to a Rav 4 for a car.  By saying yes to that car, we said no to the likes of Mirage, Commodore, Falcon, a Mustang, a Ram, a Kia, a Mazda and everything else.  I am perfectly happy for others to pursue them.  Not for us though.  We went for Rav 4 (one of the reasons was height.  It gets us above most flood water).
It does make sense to me to discard others and only have eyes for what I have chosen.  In relationships a wandering eye is not a good look.  Why not when it comes to a car?   It is important I know all I can about what I have.
.That to me is why it is important that having decided, I stick with it through thick and thin.  It does not do me, or anyone else, any good to say yes and then no.
To me, once I decide, I need to go with it.  Become as expert as I can in my choice.  That can not be the case if my choice is wishy washy.  If I am continually rueing the fact we bought a Rav 4 and pine for a Nissan ute.
Having chosen a Rav 4 it is up to us to see what this baby can do.  I got picked up by a neighbour one time in a really flash sports car.  When I got in I said , “let’s see what this baby can do,” and instantly regretted it.  I was taken down a road where the driver was looking for a “no car” area so he could show me.  I was so glad other cars were around.  He sold the car to someone who was not content to see what this baby could do in any sort of gradual way.  No sooner did they have the car then they wrote it off.
The Matilda’s won the soccer against France in a penalty shoot out.  They had eyes for one thing.  Winning.  If they are anything like me then doubts inevitably come, but there is a huge difference to me to dismissing a doubt, and entertaining it.
Doubts are inevitable.  They will be my undoing when I think my choice is the right one for me and my yes is a firm yes, but I give inordinate time to the thousand no's.
