Worth It

John Lennon sang “You may call me a dreamer but I’m not the only one.”
He ain’t.  In the post yesterday I mentioned the Narnia series.  In one of the books (and I do not remember which one) it says, “there are reports that Aslan is on the move.”  I loved that then and love it now.  I was wrapped to hear a song called “Love is on the move.”  I have just looked it up and added it to my Spotify playlist.
One of the reasons I so love that is to me love may be a static thing, but my emotions are not.  There are times loving is the last thing I feel like doing.  Maybe I am interacting with someone I have trouble liking, let alone loving.  Maybe I have been wronged.  Maybe I see a glaring injustice.
But the way I feel is not the end of the story.
I heard a guy tell how he was confronted by a homeless guy one time who smelled the worst smell he had ever encountered.  To face him while talking to him he held his breath.  The guy telling the story was a public speaker and thought the guy just wanted money.  He just wanted to be rid of him and reached into his pocket and got out his wallet.  The guy pushed away his hand and said something like, “I don’t want your money, but what you were talking about.”
The guy telling the story said he felt so ashamed.  Here he was talking about love and when confronted with a seemingly unlovable person he had rejected him.
The homeless person is now married, working and has a totally different life because instead of rejection he met with acceptance.  It really ties in with what I have said for years.  “The way someone is, is not necessarily the way they will always be.”
To me love is not always an easy thing.  It is not just a warm fuzzy feeling.  Sometimes it is the hardest thing I do.  Sometimes I learn things about myself I don’t like and am reticent to admit are there.
But to me love is more than just loving those who may be close to me or lovable people.  Sometimes love is taking a chance.  Sometimes things do not work out as I think they may.
But every time it is worth it.
