Working within Limits

I am always interested to know what I am going to write about each day.  Sometimes I know ahead of time and sometimes it is anyone’s guess.
This morning it is really about where I am at.  I have a good life.  And a challenging life.  I can never relax for too long, for just as I think I can relax I realize there is something I need to do.  That sort of thing I know is good for me.
I am the sort of person that needs things to do to combat my inertia.  Half the time I bring it on myself, but I know it is for the best.
One thing I know I have learned is to say no.  No matter how well meaning people are no one cares about me like me.  I have had to realize my limit (not an imagined one but a real one).  I do not want to take on something that breaks the camel’s back.
So often I have seen that something is taken on and regretted and it becomes an all or nothing thing.  I have often said I would like a slow burn rather than a fire that flares up and dies.
It is understandable but counter-productive that so many in their enthusiasm think they can take on heaps, and when the enthusiasm departs and it is just a one foot after the other thing the mind is changed.  Unfortunately at that point everything is abandoned.  Instead of a cutting back there is a cutting off.  No one wins.
Even yesterday I thought I can let something go without real consequence, and I was amazed at how much better I felt about it.  I want to do a few things well, rather than many things badly.
Here I am at 65 still learning stuff and figuring out the best way to go.  I never cease to be amazed how often I hear my contemporaries say the same thing.  I know there is a desire to be better and though we fall and fail we get up again.  I certainly like that better than not getting up and giving up.
