Working Bee

20/8/2022

Bit cactus tonight.  And I did not work as hard as some that are older than me.  We had a working bee at our church.  I had no idea who was going to turn up.
Merril and I clean so we got there early.  Not as early as one though.  There was one volunteer already onsite.  He helped Merril and I with the chairs.  Tomorrow we are having a celebration day.  So the place will be set up differently.  More like a coffee shop.
Anyway that needed to be done first.   So we were kept busy while people arrived.  I had spent a bit of time working on what needed to be done.  I had no idea how many were coming so I did up a list that was more than we could get done just in case.  We did not do it all but we sure did a lot.
I was amazed who was there.  People I did not expect.  Not only did people come but they were all there to work.  But one person rang me and said I will do morning tea.  Boy was that welcome.  At 10.30 we downed tools and ate, drank and talked.
One guy came that happened to be cleaning out their car.  They were invited and worked like a trojan.  Actually everyone did but him being a young fella and this was what he did for a living he sort of did some of the stuff I was wondering about.
Another person came who is retired now but landscaping was their business.  It was a pleasant surprise to see him but his help was terrific.  He worked on preparation for a shed we will put up eventually.
During the week we received word that we have a ease on a vacant lot next to us.  We got the lease in exchange for looking after the property.  It was amazing to see whipper snippers in action and a pole pushed to one side.
There were people cleaning windows, packing vehicles, going to the dump, shifting soil, building access pints. Sorting equipment and a number of other activities.
The atmosphere was great too.  We had said it was a three hour do.  We did what we could in that time frame and then tools down.  It seems to me good to have a definite end point.  But what makes an activity like that is attitude.  People came with a mind to work.  It seems to me when people have one heart focus and a mind to do the job heaps is achieved.  Well it was today anyway.
But I was glad to get home.  A sleep was in order.
