Winners are Grinners

I asked Merril “what should I write about today?”  What she suggested was something I had in mind and was happy to do.  She even gave me the title.  “Winners are Grinners.”
That was what I was thinking of doing.  I really could not believe what I was seeing last night.  But one thing the State of Origin has taught me is to expect the unexpected.  It is great Queensland win as often as they do but it seems to me when NSW win they can win big time.
Maybe I’m damaged goods but what often comes to mind for e is Queensland throwing everything at NSW to no avail and NSW raiding our territory and seemingly scoring with ease.
It seemed the shoe was on the other foot last night.  Last night it would seem to be just a matter of time before NSW went in and we would repel the and then score ourselves.  Naturally I did like that.  I was relieved though when we got three tries ahead.
If I remember rightly we were just over two ahead when they scored.  They seemed to have new enthusiasm.  Thankfully for us it seems our next try took the wind out of their sales.
There were five of us watching.  One was a NSW supporter.  They were fairly quiet throughout the evening.  Another was from England and recently received Australian citizenship. They have adopted Queensland as their home as they live and work here.  Thee rest of us (all three) were died in the wool Queenslanders.
I did say at one stage that we seemed to be at sixes and sevens.  Why did we not say they were at threes and fours or 9’s and 10.s.  I did ask why we say that and Merril looked it up.
Apparently it relates to a dice game for the 1300rds.  Throwing sixes or sevens threatened ones entire fortune.  Thankfully what was threatened did not come to pass and I could relax again.
As always I enjoyed the company.  Win or lose that has always been the case.  But winning does make it even better.
