Why Play Table Tennis?

I talk a lot about table tennis, as I guess I am a table tennis tragic.
At home I have the table I play on and a table with a robot.  I guess saying “I must see if that thing still works” tells how much I use it.  In Townsville I had a table under the house (it was high set, which, if one plays table tennis there, is a good thing).  We had such a good time playing on that table.  In Brisbane, I also had a table under the house but there was really not the room.  It did not stop us.  Also the ceiling was really low.  At another place I had a table I did not trust.  It was too thin (the bounce was terrible) so I added a thicker board to the top.  I was always concerned that table would collapse.
I was a bit miffed they changed the ball.  I have heaps of celluloid balls but they have changed them to plastic without a seam.  The size is now 40+ rather than 38+.  I am led to believe they did this for a couple of reasons.  The bigger ball makes it a better spectator sport, and celluloid was poisonous.  Ok, someone would really need to eat the ball to be effected, but they changed.  Plastic balls are more expensive, but the price is coming down as more places produce them.
I guess one of the reasons I am keen on the game is it can be played all ones life.  We have a guy playing in his mid 80’s.  He is not a bad player, but if he is allowed, he will get the opposition running from side to side while he just stands in the middle playing his shots.  A key to beating him seems to be to get him moving.
One of the things I have a real problem with, is folk coming back too early from injury.  Certainly we are keen.  We want to play. But things just happen.  We don’t want them to, but they do.  Table tennis is no different.  People pull muscles, get tennis elbow, or have tendons removed from where they are supposed to be. Coming back too early lends itself to the injury re-occurring.  It seems the right treatment and time are the best healers.
Unfortunately in many sports one is past the prime beyond 30.  It seems that the older one gets in table tennis, the wilier one becomes.  When we were starting out as a club we were beaten by a team from another club. Nothing unusual there.  What was unusual though, was it was the only time I know of that someone left in a wheel chair after beating us.  Times have changed though.  We are easy beats no longer.
I also like that it is played indoors and so not effected by the weather.  There are outdoor tables on the Sunshine coast and they are heaps of fun.  However if it is windy, one end only needs to touch the ball while the other needs to hit it with their might.
In looking up the internet I found an article called “why you should play table tennis.”  It was produced in Britain.  It listed many reasons including fitness and hand eye co-ordination.  Doctors seem to love the hand eye co-ordination part.
Ok I am a table tennis tragic.  While I can, I want to play.  I am just glad I am not alone in that desire.
