Why Bother?

They say (whoever “they” are) that if you want to get a job done, give it to a busy person.  That makes sense to me (trying to avoide burning someone out)
Solomon had heaps on his plate.  Not only did he run a kingdom (with the upshot of being responsible for everyone under him), he wrote some fantastic proverbs which are still in vogue today, and Song of Songs. 
It is what he says in Song of Songs that has got me thinking.  He says there that “all is vanity.”
I have heaps of interests and things that keep me going and motivated.  I need to choose how I spend each day, as I cannot fit everything into a day.
I must admit I sometimes wonder at the value of what I do. Ok, there are parameters I need to adhere to, like loving my neighbour (to me my neighbour is anyone who is not me!) but beyond that, I choose my actions for myself.
I remember saying to my boss that one day I would be lucky to be a memory and perhaps an old photo.  I can imagine being a part of someone’s family tree.
I therefore ask myself what is the point of gardening, stamp collecting, playing table tennis, interest in web development etc?  I may know certain things but to what end?
I have reached the conclusion that all matters.  My life may be insignificant in terms of world history, but it is not insignificant to me, or those around me.  I am really pleased there are others that share the same interests I do.  There are people who garden and heaps of books written on it.  Stamp collecting is a whole industry.  There are table tennis clubs across Australia and the world, and tables in many people’s homes. A person only needs to look at the groups that can be joined, to know interest in many things is alive and well.
For me though, an interest in something is not enough.  If I am not an approachable person I will remain alone in my interests.  I am not responsible for other people’s behaviour, but I am for mine.
There is a saying that says “as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”  I believe we all have something to learn and to teach.  To me everyone’s life story says something.
My particular bent affects me, and those around me.  It can be positive or negative.  I sure want to make a positive impact.
