Who'd Have Thought

I guess one of my causes is the futility of many causes.
I look at things like climate change.  Some people feel really strongly about it.  They tell us the world is changing for the worse and if we do not do something now, we are in dire straits.  Others hold exactly the opposite view and deny there is anything happening at all.
Then there are things like power sources.  Some say we should use a combination of coal and renewables and others think there is no place for coal at all.
There is a myriad of worthwhile causes.  Things that I could dedicate a portion of my life to fighting.  Things I have a view about.  Yet I ask myself what is the point of protesting?  I have no desire to hitch my wagon to many of the causes as the people look exactly the same as what they are opposing.
When I see protests that effect many innocent people and spoil something for the majority in pursuit of making a point, I am not drawn to the cause.  In fact, I am more likely to be drawn away from the cause.
I guess it has to do with my view of the world.  I am all for doing my bit but doing it myself.  I am not in favour of much of what I see.  People espousing a cause and then living in the opposite way.  I do not set myself up, as it happens all too easily and can happen to me if I am not vigilant.
To me that is a test of what I see.  I am drawn to those who say something and then live it.  They may have a different view to me, but they have my respect.
Love him or hate him I think of King Charles.  He was driving a certain sort of car and said he wanted it to run on vegetable oil or something.  The car company said they could not do it.  So he said I had better drive a different car then.  Then the car company made it happen.  Reports are that it may even be running better than it was.  He lived what he believed.
That I think is a key in my life.  It is better I am strongly for something or against something than to be wishy washy and oscillating.  That is key to my peace of mind too.  In anything I do when I am unsure of myself, I am more likely to come a cropper.
I guess I am opposed to hoisting my views on another.  It is important to me I come to my own conclusions.  I don’t want anyone to hold to something because I said so, but because they have found it so.
What I try to do is love no matter what.  Rather than opposite views being a barrier they are a matter of opinion only.  No matter where I stand, I am still a person and no matter what cause I hold to, just like everyone else I have feelings and needs.  People matter more than many causes.
