Who Knows

Yeehaa!  It is Thursday.
For me, Thursday is my day off.  I mean, I like all days, but I particularly look forward to Thursday.  I have determined that it is the day I will not do what I am happy to do on other days.
There is one day during a week I do something I would rather not do, but I know it is good for me.  I tend to be glad when that one is over.  I would not say that about Thursday though.
There was a period where I tried to work seven days a week.  I have come to the conclusion I am not built for that. I need a day to recuperate.  When I was trying to work 7 days a week I found that at best  I achieved in days 6 and 7 two half days of work.  It was at best counter-productive and at worst an invitation to get involved in things that would eat up my time without being profitable.  I thought “what is the point of that?”
So Thursday is the day I try to ensure is totally for rest and relaxation.  Rest may mean working around the yard, but it is a different activity then I do most days.  Or it may mean veging and watching tele.  It matters not so much what I do, but it is done in a spirit of resting for normal activities.
Of course, if there is something that needs my immediate attention I will deal with it.  It is not like I would not rescue someone if I was the only one available and it was in my power to do it.  But that situation is rare.  Mostly the day is peaceful for me.
I must admit in thinking about it there are other days I can do similar.  The difference is though on any other day that sort of thing is expected and accomodated.  Thursdays recouperation is expected.
It is weird how I operate.  I tend to cram things into days where I can.  I operate on a philosophy that I would rather pack a day and leave the next one free than scheduling one thing one day and another another day.  My thinking is I have locked myself down to two days when in reality it need only have been one.
Of course I need to protect my days off.  Well meaning and unknowingly people talk of populating my day and that will happen if I let it.  I remember being at work and encouraging someone to do something they wanted to do, but they were being phoned all the time.  I suggested they tell each one that called they were busy at that time.  The calls at that time stopped.
When people know they mostly act.  When they don’t know they don’t know any better.
So today I have things I want to do.  Whatever happens I plan to enjoy it.
