Who Knows?

17/11/2023

Yesterday had a bit of everything.  Those getting up at the usual time would have seen it as a beautiful day and it was.  There were a number of people taking advantage of the warmth and sunshine.  There were people tethered to boats flying high out the back of them.  Another person was flying a kite from a sandbar in the middle of the waterway.  We even saw dolphins in the water, though there is no photographic evidence.
Before that though the day had been very different.  It was very overcast and looked like rain.  We had wanted to photograph the sun rise but there was no sun to be seen.
We decided we could go to the shops and get what was needed and then go for a walk and maybe do some fishing.  The only thing that happened was we went to the shops.  That was an enjoyable time.  While waiting for Merril in a shop I talked to someone who was selling plastic plants.  They were incredible value.  We got a few things we needed, a few things we did not really need (like biscuits) but were really glad to have.
We got home and the day was really warm.  In the distance it looked like something could be brewing.  We decided to have a read and a rest before we ventured forth.
When it was time to go the wind was blowing a gale.  I brought a few things in from the balcony as something had already moved and made contact with the floor to ceiling window facing the front veranda.
I really have not seen wind like it for decades.  It did seem to be close to par for the course for some locals though - the way they were wandering around.  I do know it was a bit exceptional though as flags attached to a proper flag holder either got blown away completely or part of them let go and held on for dear life.
I checked the wind speeds on the BOM.  The average here was 44 somethings (I do not know if they were knots or klms).  There were 50 somethings but when I looked at Caboolture the wind speed was 9.  That I am used to.
Then the storms came.  We missed the hail and heavy rain but experienced the lightning and thunder.  We decided it was not a good time to go for a walk.  Apparently the Gold Coast experienced over 25,000 lightning strikes.
We spent most of the day reading and watching what was happening.  I do not look forward to storms, but I did look forward to this one as I was snugly sheltered away.
Today has dawned different.  No one would ever suspect what yesterday was like.  Perhaps today we will get the walk in and maybe fish.  Who knows?!
