Who Am I?

Ok I’m weird.  I am probably stating what you already knew.
But I gained some solace today knowing I am not alone.  More than 12 million people share my birthday.  Of course you know that is the 15th of January because you would have been saving all year for my present.  If you haven’t, it is not too late to start.
There are about 365 days in a year and a lot of years in a generation.  There are both births and deaths, but that makes for a lot of people.  I am not one of a kind in the sense there are others like me (those poor people).
I saw someone one time who looked so much like me it was uncanny.  But just like you, I am stuck in this frame.  I need to put up with it, and you need to put up with me.  That could be called many things, but I am going to call it win/win.
I was listening to a song today called “Who am I?” and it got me thinking.  There are approximately five billion people on the planet and a number of billions have lived throughout history.  Yet how many are famous?  It is pure speculation but maybe a million.  We know about the likes of Aristotle, but what about the guy and his wife and five kids that lived down the road?  They all had names.  They all had aspirations and dreams.  Yet they were not famous.  Billions were not famous.  I am one of the billions.
I sold real estate for a while and I remember something that was pointed out to me.  To live on a main road was seen as undesirable.  This person said “see all those houses?  There are people living in all of them.”  Some are real house-proud, and some are horders.  A friend of mine commenting on someone’s place, said they would need to back into the loo soon as there was so much stuff.
Weather famous or infamous or one of the many, I am known.  Famous people have a name that lives on.  I am both loved and despised, (insert whichever is you here).  But however I am seen, I know I am giving it my best shot, and trying not to hurt others along the way.  Treating others the way I want to be treated really means a lot to me.  I know for sure I want to be treated well, and it is the least I can do to afford others the same as I want for myself.
The thing is, that song, “Who am I?” contains words like “I am a wave tossed in the ocean.”   I admit it, I love that imagery.  Like many I guess, I have seen a wave tossed in the ocean.  It is there momentarily, and then gone.  It is as though it never existed.
But it did.  And that seemingly insignificant wave was a part of something bigger.  At the very least it was a part of the tide coming in or going out.  By itself it could effect little change, but as a part of something, it was an irresistible force.
I may not have a name that is written of in books or taught as a part of history.  I may be one of the billions and be making up the numbers, but my life is significant.  I may not be known by many, but I am known, and I have a role to play.
