While the Iron is Hot

There is something I read in the latest email from James Clear that I reckon is a truism.
When it comes to authors, writers, or public speakers I weigh up all I read.  Often there is much I agree with.  Sometimes there is very little I agree with but there is one thing for sure, I will always consider something, and use something from what is said where I can.
What I read is something I have found to be true.  "Today might be the best chance you have to take action.  The longer you wait, the more deeply embedded you get in your current lifestyle. Your habits solidify. Your beliefs harden. You get comfortable.  It will never be easy, but it may also never be easier than it is right now."
When it comes to taking action there is no time like now.  With the passage of time concrete hardens, and snow melts.  Both processes depend on the environment.  Often when faced with a decision the environment is right to do what is best.
Even when the environment is not always right I seem to be the one that sets it.  Like turning on the air conditioner.  I can set it to whatever temperature I like.  Some temperatures do me good while others have a negative effect on me.  But then  I can be inclined to do what I want to do and, “blow you Jack.”  To me this is like “the longer I wait, the more deeply you get into your current lifestyle.”
It seems incredible to me how I am so inclined to accept what I need not accept.  How inclined I am to make adjustments to my lifestyle that inhibit rather than liberate.  So often it seems my actions can be based on laziness, ignorance or a lack of belief.  I am in second gear when I could use more and better suited gears to the speed I am going.  My attitudes harden and I get comfortable in accepting a lessor and un-necessary outcome.
But as Clear says. “It will never be easy, but it may also never be easier than it is right now.”  I do hold to that.  I was young and am now older and through observation and experience I have seen what can happen to a person.
Some older people become bitter and resentful.  They have a chip on their shoulder that can become a wall making them hard to get to know.  Others are open and friendly and rather than being “know it alls,” they are “learn it alls,” still growing in old age.  They know that forgiveness is like a melting of the snow in their life rather than unforgiveness being like a hardening of the clay.
As Clear says, “it will never be easy.”   Ain’t that the truth.  That is why I know I need help to do it.  Yet it seems so much that is good for me is not the easy option.  It may ne a way less travelled, but I want to travel it.
