What's the Diff?

I really do want to burn hot.  I know there would be many that say, “steady on lad, let’s be sensible.”  That is good advice within the context of going for it.
I wrote recently about being spectators or participants.  I will admit I have no aspirations to be a grey nomad.  I do not want a sea change or a tree change.  What I do want is to be content where I am and to go for it.  I want holidays at holiday time but I do not want all of life a holiday.
By going for it I mean mixing with those I mix with now.  And making new friends.  Not feeling that I miss something but being content that I have everything.
I have aspirations.  Things I want to do.  Improvements I want to make.  But the real difference I would like to make is in people’s lives.  Possessions are ok, and I like to have them.  But things cannot love me back.  And things cannot appreciate me like someone who cannot return in like kind, and must content themselves being a receiver only.
Those goals may seem noble but are they really?  I think not when I consider the alternative.  At the end of my days, I may have made myself comfortable, but it would be one gaining perhaps at the expense of many.  I want others to gain.
We just watched a 60 Minutes story about a couple that beat the lottery system.  They did the maths and worked out what it would take for them to be winners.  They made over 27 million dollars.  What did they do?  They told others in their small town about it and others benefited.  They live in the same house they have occupied for over 60 years.  Their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have benefited.
To me that sums it up in a nutshell.  Of course I want to be well off.  But to me it has to be for the benefit of others.  I cannot take any gains with me.    When I look at the tombs of the pharaohs, the boats that were to serve them in the after life are still there.  As are all the other trinkets and people they took with them to serve them in the afterlife.  I can see no evidence to suggest accumulated wealth serves me beyond the grave.
But to me making a difference in someone else’s life makes a difference.  The benefits to people can multiply. Replacing something negative with a positive in someone’s character can change more than one life.  It can have a ripple effect.  The ripples I would like to see happen are those that tell of improvements in life.  I do want to make a difference for thee better.
