What's the Big Idea?

27/2/2025

I had totally forgotten that today is the day I get the James Clear email.  There were a couple of things said there, that I find helpful.
"Things that keep people from fulfilling their potential: Lacking the courage to try; Trying to please everyone; Imitating the desires of others; Chasing status without questioning why; Playing superhero and trying to do it all alone; Dividing attention between too many projects"
Many I have touched on like lacking the courage to try.  I have found that stepping out into the unknown takes courage when I have never been there before.  Something I read recently relates.  When do you need courage?  I do not need courage when I am in my comfort zone and I know security.  I need courage when I step into the unknown.  Someone getting the title of courage only gets it by displaying courage when needed.
Trying to please everyone is to me a recipe for disaster.  To me a good decision is one taking in a variety of views rather than just running with one.  Sometimes one is good to embrace but more often than not cherry picking many is more all inclusive.
One desire I had not considered at all was “imitating the desires of others.”  In considering it I have found that this is good but has the potential of being bad.  I do find following in the footsteps of those I admire and would like to be like, a good thing.  But it can be very limiting if I go no further.  I can see it as a bad thing if I am imitating a desire without thinking it through, or if it is a desire that promotes myself only without a though on the impact it has on others.  I see many ideas at the moment I think are good but the process to me is floored and the cost of doing it a particular way, does not consider the impact.
I said there were a couple of things in the email I liked.  I have never put in the question before but I do believe the question is a good one.  “ You get to pick a new career based on one factor: Your job is to do the activity that most frequently puts you into a flow state.  (Flow state = you feel fully immersed in your work, you're in "the zone," time flies by without you realizing it, etc.)
What do you choose?
I do like that.  I find it so easy to be involved in a multitude of things and can grow to resent them as they are not the thing I am best at or find the most interesting to do.  I do them because they need doing not because they are “me.”
Anyway that is an interesting start to the day.  Heaps to do but the first time I go out is to have breakfast with someone.  Not too shabby I reckon.
