What was that all about?

There is an ad on TV where a guy says his dad used to say something like, “I’ve got ideas I haven’t even thought of yet.”
I do like that as I have found that things occur to me down the track I had no idea I would be thinking about.  My points of reference right now are limited to my current knowledge and experience.  Yet so often I find a book, or what someone says causes me to go down a track I had never before considered.
To me that is about being open to new things.  As someone said “a cup is only useful when it is empty.  A mind that is filled is an uncreative mind.”  I reckon by that it was being said that when I am unopen to new thoughts and ideas, I am in danger of thinking I have arrived and there is nothing new for me.  I reckon nothing could be further from the truth.  Six or sixty, there is always something to learn.  To stop learning is to me to stop growing.
We no longer have it but there was a huge tree in our yard.  I was amazed how much it grew in the time we were here.  Watching it, growth was imperceptible.  Yet seeing it one year and then the next there was a progression of height.  In the same way when I am open to the new and have a framework in which to process stuff I grow as a person.  It may be imperceptible to me, but others see it and eventually I do to.
I so reckon that is a worthwhile activity.  As someone said, “bring ideas in and entertain them royally, for one of them may be the king.”  That to me says heaps.  I should not despise small things.  I should treat ideas as important.  One may be the one that changes everything.
So while I think what needs holding to should satisfy the most intellectually challenged, along with the most intellectually brilliant, and be good for all, I do think there is room to grow.  To mix metaphors the destination matters big time, but life is a journey, and there are things to learn on the whole trip.
