What was that?

Dark is dark.  That is the sort of profound thought I have had night.  You can quote me.  I should have known that would be the case.  The forecast for tonight was dark, gradually becoming light towards the morning.  They were right.
The reason I was having such a profound thought is I normally get up around 4am.  There was a time when it was getting light at 4.30.  A brief time mind but it was happening.  No more.  It is now getting light towards six.  So even when I get up at 4am it is dark still for a few hours.
Hence the dark is dark.  It could be 2am or 5am.  It is dark.
I was awake real early (it turns out) and did not have a clock.  So I got up and wandered into the kitchen where there is a clock.  2am.  I was glad it said that.  I wanted to go back to bed. I did.
The nights are a little cooler and it was great to get back under the covers.  I know I did sleep as there is time I cannot account for.  There was time I was just lying there.  I can account for that time, but the time I was asleep I missed anything that was happening.
It gets me that when I am asleep, I really have no thought for the sounds of the night.  When I am awake however it is like I am hypersensitive to the slightest noise.  “What’s that?” I think, imagining all sorts of things but then drifting off like it was nothing which it usually is.
There is something right up the back that wanders on our tin covering what is our vege patch.  Cats tend to be stealthier than being racket makers.  There is one from next door that wanders across our yard.  I don’t like him being there.  I think he does not like me either as every time he sees me I am waving my arms and walking fast towards him.
I do not think it is a baby dinosaur either as they are extinct.  I actually do not know what it is, but as long as it stays there I will stay where I am and get more sleep.
