What Do You Know?

I have not quoted James Clear for a while but there is something I read of his I like.  It is:
"One version of confidence is: I've got this figured out.  Another version is: I can figure this out.  The first is arrogant and close-minded. The second is humble and open-minded.  Be humble about what you know, but confident about what you can learn."
I particularly like, “ Be humble about what you know, but confident about what you can learn.”
Since the tumour self-confidence is a thing that I have real trouble with.  Not the thought of feeling good about stuff and pleased with taking something where it has gone.  It is more I have trouble with the thought where I came from is any thing but a gift.  I totally think all of us should make the most of what we have, but none of us should think that what we have is anything but a gift in the first place.
There is a show on tv I think called “secret millionaire.”  In it contestants are given a seed amount and it is up to them to make as much as they can in a certain amount of time.  I like to see what people do with what they are given.  In some cases fortunes are made through very mundane things.
Whatever happens the contestants can only do what they do because they were given an amount in the first place.  I really feel that is the way life is.  Before my tumour I would give lip service to feeling that I got where I got because of a gift in the first place.
The stroke has shown me a stark reality.  All I have and all I am, can be gone in a moment.  Rather than bemoaning the fact that I feel like a 4 stringed guitar now rather than a 6 stinged guitar I very much concentrate on what I do have now rather than what I don’t.
I am sure it can seem weird, but I am thankful for seeing that.  For me it is a version of being humble about what I know while being confident about what I can learn and do with what I know.
