Weirdness

Whether we like it or not, all of us contain weirdness.  Especially you.  You are like totally weird.  I must admit it is hard being the only one right and everyone else wrong.  I guess it is a cross I need to bare. But I am going to remain silent concerning the cross I need to bare.  You won’t hear it from me about the cross I need to bare.  My lips are sealed concerning my cross….I bare.
We have a really good friend (and I didn’t need to pay him much) who has ideas we totally do not share.  We have ideas where he feels the same way about us.  What is good though, is there is so much common ground.
Being from a numbers background I tend to see it as being like someone having 10 ideas and I share the same view on 9 of them.  The 10th idea we are diametrically opposed on.
I need to ask myself a question at that point.  Do I disassociate myself from that person because of the one thing we diverge on, or do I associate with them based on the 9 things in which we share the same conclusion?  Those numbers would need to be weighted.  For example, he may love to collect stamps, love sport and really enjoy gardening.  The thing we differ on may be that he thinks mass murder is ok.  To me, that last one carries a lot of weight.  I would be disinclined to associate with that person for self-preservation reasons if nothing else.  In my mind the thing we differ on would carry a lot of weight.
Whatever the case, the choice is mine.  The way I weight things may not be the same for another.  That is just life.  As they say, birds of a feather flock together but I may need to say good-bye.   Mostly saying good-bye is hard.  Sometimes it is easy like “good riddance” but for someone close it can be hard.  As long as it is not like one exchange I heard.  The person declared, “I’m back!!” To which the other replied “oh, I didn’t even know you had been away.”  It seems the returner had made no impression at all.
Weirdness is not confined to one group.  I think it is unfair to tar everyone with the same brush.    Just because I have encountered weirdness I cannot deal with in one person, does not make all in that persons group totally weird. Though I think it would be safe to say, there is weirdness in everyone of them. You didn’t hear it from me, but there is weirdness in me.
There is a saying “there are no such thing as strangers, just friends I haven’t met yet.”  It probably does happen, but I imagine it would be just as true to say, “There is no such thing as perfect agreement, just weirdness I haven’t encountered yet.”
To me, what divides us is less important than what unites us.  I may need to “agree to disagree” on something, but I need to ask myself if that makes disassociating myself with a person necessary.  Sometimes it does.  Sometimes what we don’t see eye to eye on really matters.  In a lot of cases though, it doesn’t. 
For sure I can miss out, and I would like to think the other person could too.
