Way to Go

Yesterday was like a smorgasbord day.  It had a bit of everything.
Once a month I have breaky here for any guys that would like to come.  There were twelve of us five who were people I have not associated with in the past.
A mate, Ron cooked breaky on the bbq.  Merril does scrambled eggs.  It was a cold morning.  I am buying less these days as we have had so much left over.  I am sure the day will come when I determine I should get more but that day has yet to be reached.
What we have really wanted was to get to know our neighbours better.  We are on speaking terms with some and waving terms with others.  Our relationship is positive with all, but we are outgoing people and like any chance we get to know people better.
Yesterday turned out to be such a day.  On the street next to ours which we go down every time we go out is a tree.  Merril had pointed out the abundance of fruit on it.  They looked like oranges and turned out to be lime.  A husband and wife team were out pruning the tree and had a box declaring “free limes.”
We grabbed a bag from the car and went and met them with the aim of taking some fruit to the food pantry we know.  We grabbed the fruit and got to meet the couple for the first time.  The wife commented that this has been a bumper season and it has.  Our fruit trees have been ladened.  They are lovely people.
Also new to us our neighbour asked us to keep an eye on his dog while he is away.  He is on a “two weeks on, two weeks off” shift right now.  I  do not envy him working in the Bass Straight. The dog is a great watch dog and will go ya if it sees you as an intruder.
Our neighbour got keys cut so we could visit the place and come into the dog’s area from the house - thus showing the dog we were accepted friends of the owner.  We had a practice run in the afternoon and all went well.  The owner knows we are going away, but this will be an ongoing arrangement.  We are happy to do it, and love the dog.
We did our usual cleaning during the day as well as having a rest.  Activity and quiet.  Way to go.
