War and Peace

It happened once but does not mean it is the end of the matter.  A few years back the Prime Minister of Great Britain walked away from leadership.  He could have gone on.  He had a mandate.  But he chose to walk away.
There is a lack of trust for those in authority.  Some have earned our distrust, but it seems to me the majority have not.  Yet to me it is like no matter what someone’s persuasion, there is a white anting of their authority.  There is a wanting to get rid of someone be they good or bad.
But often there is someone no good for anyone but themselves and those that are willing to keep them in authority, who wants the authority.  They are waiting in the wings.  They will pursue their agenda rather that the one of those they are supposed to fighting for.  It is true for some bankers, journalists, police and media barons.  Basically, it seems any role which exercises authority contains the potential for corruption.  Authority does not mean responsibility.
I do not blame the Prime Minister of Britain from walking away.  Even those who want the best for others are treated like they do not.  I liken it to throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
But nature abhors a vacuum.  We see today, and history shows us, there are those that will take authority and people end up worse off.  To me it is like those insect eating plants.  The insects are lured in because the insides smell sweet and seem to have all that the insect wants.  Too late they realize it is a trap and there is no getting back.  Instead of feeding they become food.
Thankfully it does not seem too bad right now, but the way it is heading does not look good.  I sorta gauge things often by how loudly someone denies something that may be true.  What is happening now reminds me of the people that welcomed the aliens in the movie “Independence Day.”  For them denying war did not guarantee peace.  But for them they found that out too late.  Just because something is not popular does not make it wrong.
It seems though people can generally pick the genuine from the not genuine.  But the question for me is, who is willing to do something about it?  No wonder it is said the way for evil to triumph over good is for good men to do nothing.
I often think of the tide.  If the tide is going out, I may be treading water but I am still going out.
According to a book I have read it ends well.  Good men (people) do something and have a win.  That’s the side for me.
