Walk the Talk

ClicI have finished the book of speeches I was reading.  I have gone onto something else now.  Another book of speeches!  I admit I really like much of what I am reading.  It may be a turn of phase that finds a real place within me.  The context may be another time, but it seems to me the truth of something remains the same no matter what the time.
I was amazed to find, though I really should not have been, that there is like a speech writers society.  They all get together over a meal and compare notes.
One thing I have found with much of what I am reading is the same thing is being said but in a different way.  That could be just me though.  Someone else may read the same thing and think so much says the same thing, but they see it saying something completely different to I do.  What I see is where I am at.
One of my main manta’s is “walk the walk and talk the talk.”  I reckon much of what I read says that, but in a different way.  Someone said to me today “Britain won by their exertion and inspired by their example.”  To me that is walked the walk and talked the talk.  It inspired.  Others thought, if I do what they do, I can achieve victory myself.  Britain walked and talked.
The key to me is doing.  What I have read is inspiring.  It makes me want to do.  But wanting something, and something being, are two different things.  I can talk all I like, but unless I walk it means nothing - except maybe I feel inspired rather than depressed.
We have a garden that needs work.  It could look really good.  We both know it.  We often say if we do this and this that will do the trick.  It will.    We can be really “ra, ra” about it.  We can pump ourselves up.  We can have all the right tools.  Everything could be a goer.  But if we don’t do it, it will always need work.
As an aside I find it really amazing how grass seems to grow really well in all places except where I want it.  The garden that needs work is overgrown.  The grass has invaded.  It needs to be pulled out.  Of course if I decided to make it a lawn the weeds would dominate.  How’s that for defeatist.  I think I need a “ra, ra” moment and to do what needs to be done.
They say “talk is cheap” and it is.  It is easy to say the right thing.  I find that seems to happen a lot with politicians.  They say so much I agree with.  It is only when they need to do something that I find out if what they said really mattered to them, or was just said to get my vote.
I find cheap talk is not confined to politicians though.  In any circumstance I find myself I soon find out if what is said is just words or if it is words and actions.
I need to be careful though.  It would be nice if what I think only applied to others, but unfortunately for me, I am one of the others.  I am the only one I am responsible for.  I may want something to be different, but am I willing to do anything?
It is one thing to talk the talk, but it is does me no good, unless I am willing to walk the walk.k here to edit.
