Waiting

I can be a terrible waiter.  I do not mean waiting on tables.  I am terrible at that when it comes to carrying glasses.  I see people with a pile of glasses in each hand taking them to a table.  That is not me.  I am bad enough with just one in each hand carrying them to a table.  If spilling them was the worst of my worries I could live with that.  It is potentially dropping them or worse still breaking them.
Just waiting in line is something I will think about twice if I see a line up.  More than once I have decided to do something another day because I saw a line.  I need to visit the post office later.  I really hope there is not a line up.  Actually there had better not be as we are due to someplace later and that will take priority.
At the moment I am waiting for the settling of Stuart’s estate.  I will be glad when that is over.  There are a number of companies I need to deal with, and all required certified copies of documents.  I cannot blame them though.  Everything I need to supply I think a certified copy is needed to prove there is no defrauding happening.  Bitter experience shows that is all too possible.
I can generally manage to maintain a fairly calm exterior.  That does not always reflect what is going on inside.  Especially when it comes to waiting for presents.  I may be like “yeah, ok, whatever” but on the inside I may be like “are we there yet?” or “only three more sleeps.”
One thing though when it comes to waiting, I try to make sure I have done all I need to do.  To me it is silly to wait and then find out I need something, maybe too late.  It is one of the reasons I try to do all I can as early as possible.  That way I leave myself time to do what I may not have known I needed to do.
Some things though I have no control over.  I am always pleasantly surprised with presents. (Don’t get the wrong idea though.  I don’t want your year long saving up for my present to be wasted.  Keep going.)
Some things I wait for not because they are pleasant, but because they are inevitable.  I can and do wish things were different, but they are not.  For them I try to make the outcome as good as possible.  There are many things though worth the wait.  It does not make the waiting easier necessarily, but what is being waited for is worth it.
We are getting a car port built.  We have the materials, and we know the final outcome will be worth the wait.  I have a hope and the down-payment makes me know the culmination is worth the wait.
We are getting a new fence where there is no fence.  That will be worth the wait.  It is just a step in the process though.  After we get it, we will need to plant it right.  That is a part of this getting older thing.  Do what you can while you can.
Waiting is something I do not because I want to but because I have too.  Strange thing though, it usually builds character where it may have been lacking.
