Waiting

Man I find waiting can be the pits.  There is an ad on Foxtel at the moment.  It has a background of the Queens song “I want it all, and I want it now.”
I wanted a record (not a CD or a USB).  Yes a record.  And it was back in the days before the internet.  So much was not instantly available.  By golly I was going to have that record.  Never mind I could have it without the associated guilt if I was willing to wait.  I wanted it now and I got it.  The amazing thing to me was it did not satisfy like it should have.  I was glad to have it but I reckon I would have gotten more from it if I had been willing to wait for it.
Merril and I share a standard joke.  Someone presents an idea.  Our eyes very momentarily go wide with inspiration, then they half close again very quickly like we are fighting sleep.  Even if the idea is good, if we know it is not for now, we know we need to wait.  They say “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”    I am so cautious about rushing in these days.  It is so easy to get burned.
There are times though it seems waiting is not appropriate.  I am busy waiting and I should be busy doing.  I guess it is where “strike while the iron is hot” comes from.
I am seeing a fair bit on the internet these days about how there is a time for everything.  Sometimes it is the time for me to wait.  Sometimes it is the time for me to do something.  The thing about that is, I am the only one who can really know what the time is.  Others may think they know, but it really is up to me to act or not.
I am big on sleeping on something if I can.  If I wake up and it really does not feel right, then there is a good chance it is not right.  If on the other hand I wake up and it still really seems like a goer, then there is a good chance it is a goer.
What happens for me, and no doubt happens for many others as well, is the way to go becomes obvious.  While I can be the only one that knows how things should be for me, more often than not something is confirmed.  Often it is a combination of what I read, what someone says, and what I become aware of through any means.
I hear it because I am looking for it, but it does not mean I only hear what I want to hear.  Maybe I hear what I do not want to hear.  As far as I am concerned, that is ok.  I would prefer what is right for me, rather than what I think is right for me.
Big picture stuff really.  I do not know the end from the beginning.  I would prefer not to waste time down little alleys that lead me nowhere.  I may have gone down them before, and I may go down them again, but I am big on what works best, rather than just what works.  Sometimes what works best means waiting.  Sometimes it doesn’t.
