The guy yesterday said most days are mundane but everyone has a reservoir of funny stories that tend to be lost as they are not recorded.
I had a couple of events today that I consider funny, but for the life of me I cannot remember the second one.  The first happened early in the day and it was funny to me in an embarrassed sort of way.
I was heading off early and I remembered I needed my phone.  I was in the car in the drive.  I called to Merril my need and she graciously went to look while I sat in the car.  Ages seemed to go by, and I was thinking it was time I went and had a look to.  About then Merril emerged to say she could not find it.  It was not in the usual places (ie on charge, my chair or on the outside table.)  So I decided to get out of the car and look myself.  I had barely taken five steps when I identified it was in my pocket.  Durrrr.  I shook my head. I was embarrassed.  I was sorry I had put Merril through that.  I was though glad to know where my phone was.
As I say I do not remember the other thing that happened, but I do remember thinking this makes two.  It made the person I was interacting with comment that I was maybe I was having a bad day.  Actually, I was having a good day.
I do distinctly remember something that happened two days ago though.  I was serving in a shop for the first time.  Most people pay by EFTPOS and I was good with that process.  I just could not work out why I could not get the register to ring up amounts and issue a receipt.
I could get the till open ok by pressing a particular button, but blowed if I could get it to record amounts.  Every button I pushed led to a dead end.  Except once and that made it worse.  I had thought “ok it is that button.”  Turned out though it working was an aberration.  It never did it again, no matter how hard I tried.
Turned out alright though.  I apologised to a customer I was having trouble and next thing they were doing the work of an assistant and making my life way easier.
I told them I would need to make a phone call.  They left their money and left.  I was told on the phone the register does not work.  Never does.  People paying by cash hand over their brass and the only way we know the cash takings for the day is to take the amount at the end from the float in the till.  I actually thought that was hilarious.  The fact is, it was never going to work despite my efforts.
One thing it really showed me again was people are incredibly accepting when I admit vulnerability.  They race to my aid.
In fact, before I was married I thought it was a good way to pick up chicks.  I will never forget standing in front of the spices and looking all lost.  I remember seeing a girl and asking her about spices.  Boy did she give me help.  By the end of it I knew exactly what I needed and I had made a friend.
I guess that story lacks credibility considering  I was twice as old as most before I married.  But then I was not to know God was saving the best till last.
