A friend of ours wrote an article expounding the virtues of something Merril and a are opposed to.  If what it was was stated most would be opposed to the point of view also.  We discussed it and very quickly came up with counter claims that explained why what he saw as a reason to believe as he did was happening.
It reminds me so much how someone can make facts say anything they want.  Often only one claim in 500 is needed and it is quoted as an authority.
We were wondering if saying anything was worth it.  We decided it was not.  Very often people have an entrenched view.  Anything said that opposes the view is used only to justify counter claims.  An open discussion is not sought but only a looking for of added reasons for the stance already taken.
It highlights to me something I stand for.  There are many views.  I would hazard a guess that there as many views as there are people.  Everyone has a right to their view.  That does not mean every view is right.
Some views are built only on feelings and impressions.  For example I may think Australia is the best place to live.  Someone else may think Canada or New Zealand are the best.  I don’t know there is a right or wrong view.  Someone may like country music and another rock and roll.  It is personal taste.
Some views have real implications.  There are consequences.  I do not hold to the current thinking that something is “you truth” as though truth were pliable.  To me something is either true or it is not.  To me the most dangerous views are those that justify the mistreatment of others.
Merril and I went to Bunnings yesterday.  As we were approaching the disabled car park (we have a sticker) a car tore in and parked in the disabled car park (there were plenty of other parks available).  The occupants were not disabled.  Their view was “I do not are about anyone else.”  We knew that because that is what was said to us.
I do think it is one of the pluses of democracy that I can express my view at the ballot box.  I will state my view when given the opportunity.  But what concerns me most in one on one situations is the forfeiture of love.
So often the expression of a view is polarizing.  Contact with someone is cut off simply because they might not see things the way I do.  Often in those cases it is my loss.  There may be many things I can gain from the association but if a view on a particular matter differs from mine I could end all association.
I guess where I come from is the stating of what is right rather than the correction of what is wrong.  I can do that through words and actions.  Words are good but actions speak louder.
If my actions are a chore only then I will not stick with them long term.  If on the other hand they arise from a long term conviction within it will be an extension of who I am.
It seems right and wrong, truth and lies are a big issue today.  There are things that have always gone on.  Today though it seems some things are promoted and celebrated and the consequences are not good for anyone.
