View from the Bottom

I have forgotten who said it but it has become a bit of a mantra for me. “Never make a decision when you are down.”
I actually like that a lot.  To me bad decisions can be like pulling something out of the bottom of a structure, only to see it all come crashing down.  It was a bit of a trait in our household.  Many good things can be undone with one bad decision.  Certainly, what was good remains good, but the opportunity to build on it in the way I was, may have been lost.
To me it is a bit like building a house and having all the rooms done with people benefiting and then demolishing the house for no apparent reason.  It is one of the reasons I like to wait.  Feeling bad inevitably passes.  I really do not want to have done something I regret in that time.
I was doing a course with a relative.  They said they were quitting.  I said if they did I would too.  I had no desire to quit, but I felt their decision was wrong.  They stayed only because of what I said.  They told me.
Dark clouds are the inheritance of all humanity.   They may appear briefly or hang around, but they are inevitable.  What I do at that time is not.  It is up to me.  I can undo all that has been achieved, or I can stick with it.  Sometimes it is a “skin of the teeth” thing.  It is not like the dark clouds have passed.
But it does feel good to have made a decision.  I remember someone saying, “most people do not have a problem, they have a decision to make.”  For me deciding right is a good first step.  It means the double mindedness has gone, and though things may not necessarily appear to be on the up, they are.  The dark clouds are temporary, and I have not made them permanent.
Decisions made in the dark are at best stabs in the dark. It is not a good idea for me to make any decisions in the dark let alone major life changing ones.  When I cannot see what I am doing, I invariably make mistakes.  If the bias to make mistakes is a sure thing in the dark, I do not think it is a good idea to make big decisions.  I need light to have any chance of making good choices.
Still, it is my decision.  Good or bad there are consequences.
