Merril and I made a trip to the Sunshine Coast yesterday.  We thought we had to.  Based on what I thought.  We got 2,000 communion cups.  I thought we needed them.  Turns out there were 1,000 here already.  So we have 3,000.  We’re ready.
But on the trip up I heard a song I have not heard in ages.  And judging by the impact of the words, I doubt I have ever really heard it anyway.
In one verse the words are, “Every day is a bank account, And time is our currency.  So nobody's rich, nobody's poor, We get twenty-four hours each.  So how are you gonna spend, Will you invest, or squander, Try to get ahead, Or help someone who's under.”
To me that was a really interesting concept I had not thought about in those terms - time being our currency and nobody’s rich and nobody’s poor.
I must admit I really like that.  Wealth tends to be measured in dollars.  How much a person has.  What they can afford (it is an aside, but I see it regularly.  Something in a wealthy area costs $500 and $100 in a not so well to do area.  Same thing.  It seems to me that often value is determined not so much by worth, but by what someone is willing to pay).
Anyway why I like the words is it emphasizes how my value to society is not determined by my abundance of material things, but by my abundance of heart things.
It really ties in beautifully with what I feel about people.  Someone may not have a lot materially, but have a wealth of experience or knowledge they willingly impart.  That to me is of longer lasting worth than a covering that deteriorates.
To me such things matter.  But they don’t matter most.
