Up The Garden Path

14/12/2018

It probably wasn’t an ideal way to prepare for a table tennis final.
The day before it, I had decided it was time to extend a path behind our garden.  The path allows me access.  One end was a dead end.  I had decided I would make an out which was a different way to the way I came in.  To do that, I needed to remove a pile of Broms.  It did not help, that the day before, something had moved in there.  Fortunately for me it was not like taking the Broms meant I would never have them again.  These Broms reproduce.  What had started as a few, was now many.  What I like about Broms is they thrive on neglect.  My sort of plant really.
Still they had to go if I wanted my path.  There were two varieties, and I was pleased to get most of them roots and all.  The only thing I discovered in there was a toad.  Oh, and a small spider.  I like it way better these days, but that area has never been my favourite place.  When we first purchased the house, I would put down something to walk on, to avoid creepy crawlies.
As usual, one thing lead to another.  A dead tree was cut down and cut up, but in the end all was done.  This may come as a total shock, but I am not as young as I used to be.  I was tired and stiff after it.  Zombie like would probably be more appropriate.  Anyway the path is extended.  Pavers would probably be good.  I just stepped it out.  I reckon I need five.
The next day (the day of the final) I had determined to clean out an area elsewhere.  I gathered all the tools I thought I would need, along with the Broms I had recovered.  I put them all in the car.  We also put in the car, a table and chairs we had bought at the treasure market.  We paid maybe a 10th of what it would be new.
I also took some cordial.  Fair dinkum, that cordial was like the Promised Land.  Whenever I thought of it, I would be drawn to it.  There was a lady there that is a real helper.  After talking to me about it, she added ice to the made up cordial containers, and put them in the freezer.  Their coldness could probably be gauged by the strange feeling in my nose, and my eyes watering.
Clearing out that area proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be.  I was prepared for cutting back, raking and pulling weeds.  What I did not anticipate was the buried plastic.  It no doubt did not help that I was working at mid-day.  I sure am glad slow and steady wins the race, as that is me – slow and steady.  I think it is an improvement.  I sure hope so anyway. A guy from the centre got a Brom.  I think the fact he did not need to water it, won him over.
After lunch and a sleep, it was finals time.  We won.  It was not easy though.  It is all over when a team reaches six wins.  We won 6/4.  I slept well that night.
