Unity

I was looking into the word unity yesterday.  On one YouTube video someone commented how hard it is to achieve.  I reckon so often it is like herding cats.  Everyone has their own idea of how things should be done, and for some it is my way or the highway.
Some things are very legitimate in my view and should be considered.  But to me things should not be summarily dismissed (unless it cannot be helped).  Often it is a combination of thoughts that is the best.
But no one should have the final say but the leader.  It being any other way leads to chaos.  It is said the difference between two teams of equal strength is leadership.
Unfortunately, there seems to be much sideline criticism.  Few things undo achievement like it, and few things aid achievement like working together.  It seems to me a team where there is infighting has little chance of achieving great things.  Yet a united team can achieve so much.  One guy I saw, would say to anyone who said to him “I am a self-made man,” “oh I’m sorry.”  That was such an unexpected response.  The thought was a united team can achieve so much more than an individual.
It was highlighted by Belgium plough horses.  Individually they can pull about 8,000 pounds.  But put two together that have never met, and they can pull 24,000 pounds.  Even more amazing is that a matched pair (those that grew up together and are of similar dimensions) can pull 32,000 pounds.
The point for me is that a team working together can achieve so much more than an individual.  Synergy improves matters, but unity blows achievement out of the park.  Individual thoughts are accommodated but subject to the goal of the group.  If anyone cannot submit to a goal, they should be somewhere else.
But having said that it can be hard.  It must be intentional.  I am probably like many others.  I like to be involved, but I like to watch.  I am keen to see outcomes.  When someone espouses a certain way or point of view, I like to watch where it leads.
I never fail to be impressed by what a united team achieves.  It is no wonder for some the catch cry is “united we stand…”  For me achieving unity may be hard but it is worth it.
