United We Stand

Mostly when I write I know what I am going to write about real early.  I do it first thing or later in the afternoon.  The next day I just copy and paste.
No so today.  I asked Merril in the afternoon what I should write about. She said see what happens tonight and perhaps you will have something then.  It was like “thanks a lot Merril.  That could mean I am up real late writing.”  Turns out I am up early writing.  Not just early but real early.  Neither of us could sleep much after 2am so we decided we may as well get up.
I had a topic the night before, but I felt I could not do it justice.  I needed to mull it over more.
The topic was something I had considered earlier and seemed to be what I was hearing from lots of people that day.  The importance of unity.  A key phrase to me was “individually we can’t while together we can.”
I thought of the tv program we see sometimes called Grand Designs.  So often there are huge panes of glass to put in place.  One person lifting the glass and putting it in place is out of the question.  But when several people all work together it works.
It makes me think that us all working together is really important.  I read “if you want to go somewhere fast go by yourself, if you want to go further go together.”  It is a personal thing, but I like the thought of going further together.
There is no doubt inn my mind it lakes longer to put things together and not everyone is suited to the particular thing that is to be achieved.  I sometimes think of it as herding cats.  Everyone has their own idea of how something is to be achieved.  Everyone wants to get the same thing done but all have their own way.
I personally reckon that is great, but it is imperative to me that there is someone in charge.  Someone who provides the direction.  Someone who with a light hand steers.  Meaning well does not guarantee achieving.
I did what I so often do – look it up.  Dictionary definitions and stories about it.  There was one blog I found which gave a business point of view as to why unity is so important.  It seems to me each one is a topic in itself, but they listed four reasons why unity matters in business.
They said it is needed for survival.  It reminded me of the balls of herring.  It does not always end with the whole ball being demolished.  They gather in a circle.  Individually they can be picked off.  Together they present a much bigger front and chances are they will not be the one taken.  Eventually they descend to the depths.
It helps us grow.  I believe that.  Takes longer but achieves more.  It works wonders.  The author suggested that individually we are like drops.  Together we are like an ocean.  Surprising things can happen and together generally lasts longer.  Finally they suggested there is courage in unity.  I will vouch for that.  I know I feel bolder in a group, when I know others have my back.
I do not want to be a Lone Ranger.  Lots of us together can achieve more.  My mission, which I have chosen to accept, is to be a part of more.
