I am laying low today.  I was virtually comatose last night watching a couple of programs on SBS.
The first was one on “The wild Islands of Ireland.”  A guy was sailing around the Islands and telling the stories of places he visited.  The photography was spectacular.  I was gob smacked at the end of the show to see the Basking sharks.  The guy was diving and he sure looked small to them.  What was amazing was an only recently discovered phenomenon where the sharks gather in a circle.  They are generally loners, and it is thought that is perhaps the way they identify partners.
The second show was New Zealand by train.  Just the South Island was featured.  The countryside was spectacular.  On more than one occasion I was reminded of Lord of the Ring.  At a mountain I thought that was where Gandalf was.  On another occasion I thought that is the countryside they rode across.  They also told of a 7.6 earthquake that had changed the landscape and necessitates that rail lines are continually checked.  I liked seeing cattle being herded along the beach.
I have never been there but right now the Northern Territory has an ad and I really like one of the lines they use. They say the Northern Territory “does not try to be different.  it just is.”
In the light of what I saw it was emphasised to me again that we are the same but different.  Ireland and New Zealand have a topography that is different to ours.  All are spectacular and beautiful.  Yet we all share the same planet.
I like that our differences that do not cause harm are to be celebrated.  Yet we are all the same in some way and that enables us to relate to others.   Our non-threatening differences are to be celebrated.  We are the same but unique.
(Today is the day after what happened at the shopping centre at Bondi.   My heart goes out to all affected by the tragedy.)
