Unexpected

Wow.  “Nothing is so certain as the unexpected.”  No wonder it is said, “expect the unexpected.”
There are things I see and I have never been there before and it opens up a new line of thought.  There are other things though, that give a new perspective on something old.  Reading “expect the unexpected” is not a new thought but it is a reminder to me.  It is said a different way to what I have read before, but it does describe m experience.
I definitely subscribe to being as ready as possible.  Like when I go on holidays.  I work from a list of what I may need.  There are basics I need evert time (toothpaste, socks etc) and those things I need specific to the trip I am going on. (we have been taking our trikes which means we pack a pump, bike lock, Alan key etc.)  The list is built in part of what I may have forgotten in the past.  It is never a good look to discover the absence of something needed.
Yet for all that, we may get a flat tyre, or the car may break down.  That is an unexpected thing.   It amazes me how many industries are built on the unexpected.  We have RACQ membership in case of the unexpected.  Tow trucks exist in part to cater for the unexpected.  The insurance we take out is a “just in case” thing.
While it may be true that I do not expect the worst I tried to be ready for the worst.  Some unexpected things may be expected but happen at an unexpected time.
I do not expect this but if an ad was taken out in the paper that I will rob this place at 4am and it was plastered all over social media I would be pretty silly if I were not ready.  If I had not taken all necessary precautions so that when it happened, I was able to ensure the robber went away disappointed, with nothing to show for their efforts.
That is why they generally come at unexpected times.  The element of surprise is a good tool.  Often soldiers are attacked at unexpected times.  Like mealtime or sleep time.  The element of surprise is often the reason for the damage of the unexpected.
I do what I can.  Previous preparation.  Maybe nothing is as certain as the unexpected, but I will do the best I can to not be taken completely by surprise by the unexpected.
