Under the House Cricket

My brother is a bit of a wiz with computers.  He was learning programming when the Commodore 64 was as good as it got.  He had one, and showed us the fruit of his labour.  Ok the program he invented was simple by today’s standards, but it worked.
He set up the program for our under the house cricket.  All we had to do was score a run and when he put in what it was worth it calculated everything.  We knew where we were in the match, and our batting and bowling averages in an instant.
Snicking onto the fish tank was out.  However hitting into the fish tank was six.  That was not easy to do as it had covers.  I don’t think any of us meant it, but it did happen.  There were zones a person hit into which were worth so many runs. LBW was subjective, but more often than not, the batsman knew when they deserved to be out.
That fish tank ended up being sold.  It was a really odd one.  It was five by three and had really thick glass.  A guy from Mackay on holidays ended up buying it.  I guess he went about it the right way.  At first he offered a price that was ridiculous, and I did not accept.  Eventually he offered something that was reasonable to us both, and I said good bye to it. While we had it though, it made a great back stop for the ball.
We invented our own pitch.  It was an elevated wide board.  We would stand so far back and peg a ping pong ball.  It was great the spin one could put on the ball.  Do it often enough, and the batsman was onto you.  It was always good as a surprise.
There were three of us that played.  A bowler, fielder and a batsman.  Although we fielded, there was certain things that were out. We had a really thin metal   support post.  Hit it on the full and you were out.
Often fielding was more instinctive than meant. A hand thrust out could catch a ball.  It was really just a case of being in the right place at the right time.
For the bat, we had a cut off small trophy bat.  It was just right for our needs.  I guess it was a bit like indoor cricket is these days.  A person had a certain number of batsman and when out, runs were deducted.
Everything was recorded on the computer.   There was a record of every game.  We were mostly interested in who won and lost, but found it really good to know everything else.
