I was wondering what to write about today.  It is my day off.  It does not mean I do not do anything, but I try not to have engagements planned.  That does not work with the doctor though.  Basically, I go to him when he can see me.
So today I spent writing emails and doing various things on the computer.  I had a sleep and have resumed part two of my day.
Merril is studying.  She is keeping up her registered nursing until the official retirement age.  So I am doing this and she gets on with study.  She has to do 80 hours and it is due at the end of the month.  Some courses can be both a registered nurse thing and a mid-wifery thing.  That helps reduce the number of hours required.
I spoke to my cousin on the phone just before and he said in passing Big Roster.  I thought “yup.  That’s a plan.”  Tonight is poached eggs on toast.  Nothing fancy at this restaurant.
I spoke to my cousin before because we are trying to organize seeing my aunt.  She is in her 90s and in a nursing home.  Merril and I, my brother and a cousin will be going to see her.  That family means a lot to us, and I was wrapped to see them at Stuart’s funeral.
It was something my cousin said that made me think there may be a bit of a theme happening at the moment.  He said my aunt has mild dementia.  Others have experience with such things.  I do not.  It is one thing to write and research things and another to experience things.  I do not take it for granted and am very thankful but there is no family history of it.  I do not know what the future holds but I can thankfully say, “so far, so good.”
I did like what I heard someone say the other day.  They were saying they may not be able to relate to a specific thing someone is going through, yet, if it causes pain, they can relate to pain.
To me that helps explain empathy.  So often I cannot relate specifically to what someone is experiencing but I can feel close to someone.  Someone who has been through the specific issue can no doubt relate better, but knowing what pain feels like I can relate on a certain level.
All I can do is make hay while the sun shines (though sun has been a rare commodity in Brisbane of late).  Probably my deepest mantra is “do to others as you would be done by.”  So no matter someone’s condition, they will be loved by me.
