Uncertain

Normally I am quick to quote from the James Clear email when I get it. This time has been different though. I got the email last Friday and I looked at it Sunday. I love the things said - as far as they go. For example (and I quote several of the quotes from the last email) “"Compete externally and you compare. Compete internally and you improve."
"The ultimate form of preparation is not planning for a specific scenario, but a mindset that can handle uncertainty."
"The more you create, the more powerful you become. The more you consume, the more powerful others become."
Writer G. K. Chesterton reminds us to not be carried along by life, but to live with energy, will, and conviction: "A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it." Source: The Everlasting Man
I reckon all those quotes are good but the one that speaks volumes to me today is, "The ultimate form of preparation is not planning for a specific scenario, but a mindset that can handle uncertainty."
The thing I find about life is it is so messy. Quotes like the above are true and meaningful but powerless to change my life. They describe the problem for sure and suggest a way out, but when the rubber meets the road and the situation is perhaps even life and death it is not these sorts of quotes I remember and hold on to.
It is others said by a person who's word I have found constantly reliable, that comes to mind when I need it.
I must confess I find it is the involvement of people that tends to make things messy (and I regard myself as a “people”). The word uncertainty is mentioned. For me, although the outcome is certain, the path is to this point untrodden and uncertain.
So while I hold to quotes like the above, I find they are great - though not in a “go to in troubled times” way. They inspire but help is found elsewhere.
