Turn

It is that time of the week again.  Dictionary day!!  (Ok I’m building it up thinking maybe at least one of us should.)  It was time for me to bravely go where no man had gone before.  Actually probably heaps have, so let me rephrase that. “It was time to bravely go where I had never been before.”
Today my hand fell on the word “turn.”  I sit here contemplating the term “turn” awaiting my turn.  Though no one else is playing so that is totally inappropriate.  But it did lead to something I had never considered (which is heaps).  Turn always implies more than one.  It can only be my turn if there are others.
I admit I do find it difficult when those speaking do not await their turn and speak while others are speaking.  It is something I try to avoid doing.  No voice is without significance.  I may or may not agree, but I will only know or potentially grow, if I listen.
Anyway I went there because of the word turn, which was really a strange turn of events.  Another one.  So many say they did not see 2020 and the pandemic coming.  We all expected everything to continue as it had been.  It was not to be.  It seems these days the only thing certain is uncertainty.  I did not see what is happening in the US coming.  I didn’t see Mt St. Helens erupting happening or the explosion in Lebanon.  The fires were a shock.
I did not say anything, but I did often think how do we know 2021 will be better than 2020?  To me, it is right to hope for the best, but that does not guarantee the best.
In the home a role may be predominantly one persons, but predominantly is not totally.  Like I know digging the air raid shelter should not be totally Merril’s responsibility.  I should occasionally provide a cold drink.   Actually even though I may be happy to take on a role, it is great when the burden is occasionally shared.  I do not think what anyone does should be taken for granted or abused.  We are giving it our best shot.  Win some, lose some but never alone.
It is my turn to cook something.  That time of the decade has arrived.  I have been doing a few pizza’s lately.  I think I am on a roll and not a bread roll.  I can do this.  I can face my turn without trepidation, but we shall see if my confidence is misplaced or not.
