T's Crossed and I's Dotted

I have had time today to do some nasal gazing…I mean navel gazing.  Except in this cold there was no navel in sight.  I was expecting someone, and I had been advised that they could arrive any time between 8.30 and 4pm.  So I spent time reading and doing various things while I waited.
Something I saw more clearly than I have before is how love is the key to so much.
I have said it before.  I look at so many causes being espoused.  Many of them I think are good and I agree with.  But so often it is the messenger I have a problem with.  When a spokesperson or a leader of a particular cause speaks it is not only what they say I am looking at, but how they say it.  A cause is looked at for its rightness or wrongness, along with the apparent motivation of its representative.
I reckon that is a huge statement.  Yet when causes are finite, I know I will choose the one that brings me the most pleasure.  I don’t want to choose a cause based on the correctness of what is being said only if along with what is right is only being miserable.   I do not find miserable attractive.  To me there is something wrong when the best I can expect is misery.  My motivation is correctness and love.  Love to me is the most attractive ingredient in the world.
Love comes in many guises.  I want to be careful of those that are cleverly constructed but conceal the truth.  Who’s aim is to entrap.  An organization tried to recruit me years ago.  All looked good but I found out later what they really stood for, and although what I had been told originally was all I aspired to, it diverged down the track.
Today Merril was out.  She had a couple of things she was doing and to me it is the sort of love that means more to me than any other.  First, she was visiting someone in hospital.  She texted first to make sure it was a good time to go there and if the visit was seen as desirable.  The reply was a visit would be great as it had been fairly lonely there.  Merril spent about an hour with her.  It would have been easier to state it was cold and raining and not gone.
Her other visit was to a relation.  It is appreciated every time.  It is not like it is profound every time.  Mostly it is just shooting the breeze.  But it is being there that matters.  It is love as a doing word.
In contrast there is an organization overseas that builds hospitals and feeds people.  Yet from what I see, the motivation is not love of the people, but it is a means only to their own ends which are hateful.
It occurred to me today that I can have all my t’s crossed and my I’s dotted, but rightness or otherwise alone is not sufficient.  I have been accosted by someone proclaiming the rightness of their cause and found their manner off-putting.  I was talking with someone yesterday who had had the same experience.
To me so often love is the missing ingredient.  Not self-promotional love or feigned love that wants me for a cause only.  But sacrificial love.  Love whose motivation is born of care.  It is a rare commodity, but I have found it is out there.  But even if it was not, I reckon change starts with me.
