Trying Not to Hurt Myself

I went to bed super early on Sunday night.  Bed was calling me.  I thought, “I can watch tele in bed.”  So much for that.  I could not tell you anything that was on.  I went to sleep virtually straight away.
But having gone to bed early I was awake early.  I am not one who likes to lie in bed when I know I have had enough sleep and am awake.  So I got up.  By 4am I had done a few things already.  Still there seemed to be little activity in the neighbourhood.  I wonder why?  Even the birds do not start chirping until after 4.30 at present.
As I was wandering around, I did ask myself what is perhaps a 4am question. “Why is the inclination always downwards rather than upwards when it comes to making decisions about my best self?”  I was reminded of the second law of thermodynamics which I have mentioned before and am likely (if I know me) to mention again.  “Everything left to itself tends to decay.”
That seems to be a part of my human condition too.  Bit like a car that pulls to the left.  Left to itself it will do that.  It will only not do that if it is fixed.
I want to do the right thing I know.  Particularly of late it is something I have decided on no matter what.  Sometimes the no matter what screams at me.  I find the easy way is easier, but it is the consequences I do not want to need to deal with.
So I choose what sometimes is the most difficult way.  More often than not, it is a case of just seeing it through.  It does not stay difficult for ever.  One thing I find though is I am always stronger having gone the more difficult way.
I have found the other way has the alure of being more fun, yet for me, what is more fun initially, is always harder to repeat.  To experience the same fun, I need to go further into where I do not want to go.
I am glad for all the help I can get.  Doing the right thing may not come naturally but that makes it all the more attractive.  Thankfully help is available.
