Trip

This time tomorrow I reckon we will be sitting in Brisbane airport.  When airlines were encouraging people to fly again Jetstar was offering special deals.  We took one that is a trip to Townsville with accommodation.  We have hired a car.  It was the place I was born.
We are catching an early plight…I mean flight.  I am not real fond of flying but I do it.  The success rate from getting from A to B seems fairly high. (I wonder why people are always going from A to B and never from B to A).  Anyway, we are looking forward to arriving at the destination.  I am just hoping the pilot does not use a long pole to help him navigate on land.
Anyway one of the things on our bucket list (the first was to get a bucket) was to see a Cowboys game.  We deliberately chose a time to go up when they were playing at home and a time they were likely to beat.
We had bought tickets but we have met a mate who has a Toyota dealership up north.  Toyota are major sponsors of the Cowboys.  Our mate phone to say we would now be in the Toyota area with an excellent view.
As I grew up there and spent more than 20 years there I am sure we will see some of the places I lived and worked.  As well as visiting friends.  We will be seeing a mate who U went to Expo 88 with.  It was a great day.  I know him and his mum was friends with my mum.  See went to Expo 88 to and did not come home until after the Jimmy Barnes concert.  She actually did not go to see Jimmy Barnes nor did she see him but it just happens she did not come home till after that.
I also want to visit the church that really impacted me and through it changed the direction of my life.  I spent a number of years attending there.  It will be good to go again but as it is Mother’s day there is a good chance it will be different to normal.
I am sure anyone I knew that is still there will look way older.  Not me though.  I am at that delusional age where it is just everyone else who looks older.
I did enjoy it up there but looking at google the place has changed heaps.  It is a major garrison city and has a big army barracks.  Plus James Cook University is there.  It was estimated the church population (it was about 1,000 strong then) turned over 30% each year.  One of my best mates was in the army and he has been around since.
This is home now.  I loved it up there but I love it here.  But some things do not change.  The Broncos are my second team.  But in State of Origin Queensland is it!
