Trike

​Trike
Must be my body clock.  For the last couple of years I have been getting up early.  Really early.  Like, super early.  I used to get up at four am.  Lately I am wide awake at three am.  I wait till about three thirty but then I am up.  I really think having a sleep in the afternoon has a bit to do with it.  Sorta takes the edge off.  Also, I tend to go to bed fairly early.
This morning was no different.  We had a plan for this morning.  We were going to ride our trikes to a nearly bridge and do some fishing.  We needed to be prepared.  I used some of the time to get the fishing gear together.  I had already peeled the prawns.  It may seem like sacrilege, but I buy the uncooked prawns from the supermarket.  They are huge and after peeling normally cut up into about three pieces.  I actually find that represents better value than buying the really small prawns in a packet at the “bait” shops.  There were a few things needed for the trikes, but all was in readiness.  I had envisaged us going about 8 or 9 but we left soon after 7am.
The ride down to the fishing place was without incident but I had to concentrate more than I imagined.   I had my rod tied to the back of the bike.  It reached high and I was on the look out constantly for trees.  I needed to pick the route I would take.  Mostly it was good.  Occasionally a tree branch and my rod occupied the same place at the same time.
Part of the route was cut off as they are working around it.  This meant going a different way.  Some of the houses and units we passed were real pretty, but although I had my camera I did not take any photo’s.  Occasionally we needed to dismount.  This was especially true crossing the road at crossings.
Getting back on track though meant we could ride a track off the road that took us to our destination (any riding we did was off the main road).  My biggest challenge were people coming the other way.  One lady we got behind was totally unaware of our presence as she was on the phone the whole time.  She was great when I rang the bell and she allowed us to pass.
I would like to say we pulled in one fish after the other at our fishing spot but the truth is we pulled in no fish.  I thought all the boats disappearing was not a good sign.  I did get snagged three times though.  Twice I lost everything.  Merril met with the same success I did without the snags.
We decided to head back at that point.  On the way a lady expressed interest in our bikes and took a picture of the suppliers’ details.  We also stopped at a place for an ice-cream.  The attendant thanked us for supporting the local business.  We were home about 10am.  That left the whole day.  We did go to the shops to pick up a few things but not before a kip.
Merril prepared some meals before coming up, but I have insisted she does nothing in the kitchen at night, so she has a real holiday.  They reckon a change is as good as a holiday, well this is a change on a holiday.  Twice as good.
Maybe not exciting by some standards, but exciting enough, and I know I am going to need a rest.
