I heard it for the first time in a song yesterday and loved it. “If I were you, I’d rather be me.”  I reckon that would go well on a tee shirt.  The singer also sang “I thank God every day that I wake up feeling this way.”
I remember laughing heartily at a comedy act about the interaction between a guy for whom trends meant nothing, and a couple for whom a trend meant everything.  However because something is unimportant to me, does not mean it is unimportant.  I will not try and force my beliefs on another, and hope they reciprocate.
Ok I may be generalizing, but women seem to have a much greater problem then Neanderthals….er men, with body image.  I have never heard a man say “do I look fat in these pants?”  Probably some place in between a man not caring enough, and a women caring too much, is right.
So much seems to be about “you need this to look, or be, like this.”  How we look may be a reflection of who we are, but it is not who we are.  Who we are comes from inside first, and not outside.  We can, and should, use any product we choose, as long as it is not in the belief it will make us something we are not.
To me, it is important we adhere to certain standards.  In the dark ages most did not have a choice.  Today we do, and I think we should.  I am thinking of such things as deodorant, toilet paper and toothpaste.  Today, these things ensure we don’t stand out for the wrong reasons!
There is an ad being shown now that talks about “on trend.”  I have never been one for trends. I remember my socks had to be folded down a certain way to be “on trend.”  I had a real hard time with that.  Besides, what goes around comes around.  What was on trend 40 years ago seems to be again.  I know I don’t play nice, but I will get or do whatever I need to right now, regardless of “trend.”
It is important though that we look our best.  I remember someone saying to me that people should not have to look twice at you.  I think I know where they were coming from.  It is important, I think, that we don’t stand out in our manner or look for any reason (except of course at events designed for us to “stand out.”)
Besides being “different” to me, is an inside thing.
