Treasure

According to a report I recently saw, Foxtel’s days may be numbered.  There are a lot of new players charging less.  They do not have as much content, but with the proliferation of free to air channels Foxtel’s demise could be just a matter of time.   Once it only took four channels to bore us, now the same result occurs even though there are a great many channels.
We continue to watch Foxtel.
Recently there was a show featuring an underwater treasure hunter.  He was after treasure purportedly dumped by someone in the Nazi hierarchy.  At a potential site, he sent down a submergible and scanned the bottom of the lake.  He could see what was there via camera.
I have also heard about satellites used to examine the topography of the land.  They know that a certain type of soil may be good for diamonds or rubies or coal.  Others bid on abandoned lockers.  They may view the contents from afar, but are not allowed in.  They are hoping to spend minimum dollars and discover a prize worth thousands.
Always they seem to be looking for treasure.  The classic pirate scene is someone holed up on an island with a buried treasure chest.  X marks the spot where it is on the map.  Not P, or R, or C, but X.
In every case people are not concerned about what the treasure is in, but the treasure itself.  Never in a pirate movie have I seen someone rave about the chest.  They always rave about what is in the chest.  The soil or rock is not what is of interest to the people controlling the satellites but what the soil contains.  The gathered silt is of no interest to the one controlling the submergible, but what is contains is.
It seems to be a human trait.  The container matters less than the contents.  The contents can be good or bad or really good or really bad.  It can also be a combination.  Though the contents can change.  I hold to a view that the way something or someone is, is not necessarily the way it will always be.
Recently a friend was saying they were into all sorts of stuff.  Yet literally overnight, their thinking changed.  I was amazed, yet really, I should not have been.  It happened to me and other famous people (I can dream), including one of Nixon’s henchmen, Charles (Chuck) Colson and the former governor general of Australia, Bill Hayden.  It also happens to millions of people I am never likely to hear of.
The thing for me is, I do not seem to be very good at hiding my treasure.  X may mark the spot on the map, but everyone has a photocopy of the map.  I know though I am not alone.  Spending even just a few minutes talking to someone, I find out where their treasure is, because that is where their heart is, and the mouth always speaks from what is in the heart.  We all talk about our treasure.  It can be money (like the guy who was told the bi-plane ride would be free for he and his wife if he did not utter a sound.  The pilot did amazing, dangerous, summersaults but not a sound.  He commended Shaun on not uttering a sound to which he replied “Aye, but I almost did when Maggie fell out”) or sport, or the job, or God.
Everyone is different.  I think my role is that my actions are motivated only by unconditional love.
