Trawl

Today’s word from the dictionary – “trawl.”
Got to admit trawlers are not my favourite boats but I am thankful for a dish feed (though I am not saying that in front of our fish)
I remember fishing in a creek up near Bundaberg.    The fishing was great if we got away from a place in the open.  But we were told the trawlers were allowed into Baffle creek and they had dredged the river of anything worthwhile.  The thing is they are so indiscriminate.  Things wanted and things on the edge are dredged up.
Anyway a local informed us that the trawlers were going to be banned again from the river.  Sorta looking forward to that.  I am used to fishing joints fished out.
But what I thought of immediately I saw the word “trawler” was the head of the company that used to collect our cash at work.  They would collect, count and bank it.  Based on print outs we would know what we were expecting and their counting would confirm our figures.  It was very rare there was a discrepancy and we would attempt to determine why.
It was something he said that caused me to immediately think of trawlers.  When seeking a company to collect our takings they were not a Chubb or Armour Guard (I did get quotes from them and they were way expensive)
He said “we are not one of the big companies but are like the trawlers the Sea Gulls follow.  They get a feed and we get enough.”  And boy did they get enough.  I will never forget the security at their unmarked building or the number of camera’s.
I really think that informed me as to the way I think.  I have a saying I hold to.  “Lot’s of little make a lot.”  I really think that so often it is not one big thing I seek (though I will take it every time) but it can be lot’s of little things making up the same as one big thing.
That sounds rather cryptic in writing, but I know what I mean.  Life has lots of lessons – big and small.  I will take both.
